Christmas is Here!

Christmas is finally here!
Way back in October, even before Halloween, I was being bombarded with Yule Time goodness.  It seemed wrong, almost as if my internal clock was off from the rest of the world.  It just didn't seem right to have 10 whole weeks of Christmas, all mixed up with Halloween and Thanksgiving.

I believe it's gotten worse over the years.  It's so bad in fact, that we barely have time to carve pumpkins.  The candy displays at the stores change suddenly to 50% off bins of left over orange and black stale candy.  Thanksgiving has been reduced from a ejoyable and relaxing family feast, to a drive through style pot luck dinner of store bought foods.  Thanksgiving is so rushed, that we set up long picnic tables in a line.  Our family walked in the front door, through the house, and finish eating their stuffing and pumpkin pie just as they headed out the door. A small child handed out wet naps to everyone, as they jumped in their cars on their way to hit the early, early, early Black Friday sales.    As a result of all this madness, I find myself fighting against Christmas until the last possible moment.  I feel as if I've been robbed of my own "warming up" to the Christmas spirit.

As of this morning, my denial of Christmas is over.  Radio station KEZ 99.9 and it's loud screech of 24/7 Christmas music has finally had it's intended effect.  "Holly Jolly Christmas" by Burl Ives was playing when I turned on the radio.  A couple of miles whizzing down the road, I found myself singing along like a crazed Christmas maniac to "Feliz Navidad" by Jose' Feliciano.  The background horns playing that rising scale of notes, and I screamed "AHA", along with the other throusands of others listenting to the same song......at the same time.

Now, where's that shopping list?
